What is the crypto Fear & Greed index?

The crypto Fear & Greed index is a 0–100 gauge of market sentiment, built from inputs such as price volatility, momentum and social activity. Low values mean fear, high values mean greed. Some traders treat extremes as a warning that the crowd may be overreacting — but it measures mood, not where price will go next.

How do you read the index?

Why do traders watch it?

Markets often overshoot when emotions run high. The index helps you notice when you might be acting on the same emotion as everyone else.

What are its limits?

Providers calculate it differently, and it can stay extreme for a long time. Use it as context, never as a buy or sell signal.

Questions

Should I buy when the index shows extreme fear?

It is not a buy signal. Treat it as one piece of context, and practise with paper trading first.
