EPA 608 certification: types, what's tested and how to prepare

EPA Section 608 certification is required in the U.S. for technicians who maintain, service, repair or dispose of equipment that could release refrigerants. The exam has a Core section plus Type I (small appliances), Type II (high-pressure equipment) and Type III (low-pressure equipment); passing all of them gives Universal certification.

What are the certification types?

How should you study?

  1. Learn the Core first — every type depends on it.
  2. Use practice questions with explanations, not just answers.
  3. Time yourself on full mock exams.
  4. Review your mistakes until they stop repeating.

Where do you take the exam?

Through an EPA-approved certifying organisation. The EPA's Section 608 pages list the rules and the approved programs.

Questions
