How to organise a medication schedule for several medicines
Start with one complete list of every medicine, dose and instruction, then group doses into a few fixed times of day that match daily routines. Load a weekly pill organiser, set a reminder for each dose time, and review the list with a doctor or pharmacist whenever anything changes. The National Institute on Aging recommends keeping such a list and reviewing it regularly.
How do you build the schedule?
- List every medicine, including vitamins and over-the-counter ones.
- Note dose, timing and instructions (with food, at bedtime).
- Group doses into a few fixed times.
- Ask the pharmacist which medicines must be spaced apart.
Which tools help?
- A weekly pill organiser with morning, noon, evening and bedtime boxes.
- Reminders for each dose time.
- A shared view so family can help.
What about different schedules — every other day, tapering?
Write them out on a calendar or use a reminder app that supports every-few-days, on/off cycles and tapering plans.
